Spring student athletes honored by Board of Education

At its June 26 meeting, the BC Board of Education recognized several student-athletes for their accomplishments. Each student was presented with an Eagle pin in recognition of their achievements by Board of Education President Holly Dellenbaugh and Superintendent Jody Monroe.

Boys Tennis

The BC boys tennis team were regular season Suburban Council champions with an undefeated 13-0 record. The team secured their fifth Section II title in the last six years by defeating Shaker 6-3. The win was followed by a 7-0 win over Section III Champions, Fayetteville-Manilus. As a result, BC participated in the NYSPHSAA State Championships held at the USTA Center in NYC. 

The boys tennis doubles team Aadi Ojha and Nyle Dennin captured the Section II Doubles Championship title, earning them a ticket to the NYSPHSAA State Championships.

BC Tennis Coach Steve Smith was named Times Union boys tennis Coach of the Year. Congratulations, Coach Smith!

Girls Lacrosse

The BC girls lacrosse team were regular season Suburban Council champions, finishing 10-1 in league play. This was the team’s fourth Section II title in the last five years. They defeated Niskayuna 8-3 in the Section II Class B finals, earning their spot in the NYSPHSAA Championships in NYC.

USA Lacrosse recognized Caroline Marrotta as an All-American. 

USA Lacrosse defines an All-American as a player who exhibits superior skills and techniques and possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge. A USA Lacrosse All-American is one of the best players within their respective area of the country, while also embodying excellent sportsmanship. Congratulations, Caroline on the prestigious honor!

The BC boys lacrosse team had an excellent season and were Section II finalists.

USA Lacrosse recognized two team members:

Dane Jones was named All American by USA Lacrosse. Jones will be attending and playing for Bates College in the fall.

USA Lacrosse defines an All-American as a player who exhibits superior skills and techniques and possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge. Bryce Morin was awarded the Bob Scott Award by USA Lacrosse. Morin will be attending and playing for the United States Coast Guard Academy in the fall.

USA Lacrosse’s Bob Scott Award recognizes high school seniors who go above and beyond in service to their team, school and community. These athletes, who truly honor the game of lacrosse, are invested in the development of the game in their town and are exemplary teammates. In addition, they must be outstanding students with high academic achievement and serve as role models within their school community. Congratulations, Bryce on this prestigious honor!

Boys Baseball

The BC boys baseball team made program history this season, winning the Section II, Class AA championship, the teams first section title in 25 years and  Bethlehem’s first NYS team title in school history. The team defeated Hauppauge 11-3 in the final game of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s (NYSPHAA) Championship held at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton.

The team finished the season with a record of 19-5.

The team has been honored by the Bunker in North Greenbush with a celebration, Rodger Wyland of News Channel 13 and Albany County Legislator, Bethlehem’s Joanne Cunningham (former BOE trustee). In August, the team will head to Yankee Stadium, where they will be honored for their accomplishments by the New York Yankees in a special pregame ceremony.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has named Coach Matt Rehbit the Regional ABCA Coach of the Year. Coach Rehbit was also named Times Union Coach of the Year. Congratulations, Coach Rehbit!
