A unique and festive online scavenger hunt was introduced to students in schools throughout the community today, Dec. 10.

Students in grades 7-12 in the Bethlehem and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school districts, and at St. Thomas School will compete for prizes while learning more about their community. The first-ever scavenger hunt is a collaboration between marketing students at BCHS and the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. It is designed to spark students’ interest in businesses and organizations within their community and to learn about career paths and job opportunities that are available locally.

The scavenger hunt also showcases student creativity. The students in Zachary Frese’s marketing class in Bethlehem developed a comprehensive website that serves as the platform for the scavenger hunt. The website highlights more than two dozen businesses and organizations that are members of the Bethlehem Chamber. Each business “page” highlights the entity’s workforce, skills, and qualifications needed for various careers, internships, volunteer roles, or part-time jobs available to students.

On each business page, a special image has been embedded. As part of the scavenger hunt, students must find the embedded images and record them on a digital form provided to them by their teachers. Students also have to answer questions about each business and record their answers on the same online form.

Students who successfully complete the scavenger hunt will be entered into a drawing for prizes. The winners will be announced at First Night Bethlehem, the annual New Year’s event celebration sponsored by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Bethlehem. First Night Bethlehem will be held on December 31 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Four Corners. The event features fireworks, hot chocolate, games, music, face painting, and more!

Students do not have to be present to win. All winners not present will be contacted the following week to get their prize.
