Increased police presence at JV football game; second threatening call deemed NOT credible

An important message from Superintendent Jody Monroe…

Dear BC community:

This afternoon, the Bethlehem Police Department received another anonymous phone threat targeting an unspecified football game today at Bethlehem Central High School. In the second call, the anonymous caller threatened to “shoot up” a football game at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, Oct. 4. The junior varsity football team is scheduled to play Amsterdam at 7 p.m. at BCHS. The game will be played as scheduled.

The police department has been investigating throughout the day and has informed the school district that this phone threat is considered non-credible. The department and the FBI are investigating the call as part of the ongoing swatting hoax that began on Sept. 10.

Earlier today, the district notified all families and area school districts of the first call threatening a football game. As mentioned in that message, there will be increased police presence at the JV football game and outside high school this evening.

We again ask for your patience and understanding as we relay these difficult messages. Your vigilance is also requested as we share this important responsibility for keeping our community safe.

Sincerely,

Jody Monroe

Superintendent
