Cold hands, warm hearts: Youth Activation Committee freezes for a cause

The Youth Activation Committee (YAC) at the polar plunge in Lake GeorgeIt takes extra warm hearts to plunge into Lake George on a frigid November morning. The Bethlehem Central Youth Activation Committee (YAC), along with their club advisor, Mr. Mooney, did just that for a cause!

The YAC participated in the 18th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason Lake George Polar Plunge, a fundraising event to benefit the Special Olympics. Team members Hannah, Lauren, Lily, Taylor, Liz, Kaitlyn, Katie, Chloe (and her dad, Andy), and Ella raised nearly $2,400 to benefit Special Olympics New York.

The YAC is a student-run organization that works to build meaningful relationships between students with and without disabilities. The YAC is responsible for increasing awareness and acceptance of students with disabilities within the school district through Unified Sports Teams and other activities. Currently, BCHS has unified bocce, bowling, and basketball teams, sponsored in part by the Special Olympics.
