A Bethlehem Central High School senior with a passion for wiring is putting a charge in his future at Capital Region BOCES.
Yousif Alsammarraie is in his second year of the Career and Technical Education Center’s Network Technology program and is preparing for a career in fiber optics.
‘When I graduate, I plan to go to Hudson Valley Community College for ECM [Electrical Construction Maintenance]. I want to be in fiber optics as soon as I get out of college,” said Alsammarraie while stripping wire in the Network Technology lab.
The BC student said BOCES provides the right environment for learning.
“The environment in the program is excellent. The hands-on activities and really the people are just good – we all learn together,” he said.
Offered at the Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus, the two-year Network Technology program provides students with the skills necessary to launch careers in networking, cyber security, wireless and cabling industries.
Through lectures, course work and hands-on activities, Network Technology students have the opportunity to explore this exciting field and gain the technical knowledge and professionalism needed to prepare them for an after-high school career or post-secondary studies in the emerging technologies.
Students in the program earn industry recognized certifications in the fields of copper and fiber optic cabling, wireless technologies, digital literacy and cybersecurity, while developing a unique understanding of today’s ever-growing field of network technology.
