BC Community Day: Faculty and staff to lend support to area organizations on Mar. 31

On Monday, Mar. 31, teachers and staff from the Bethlehem Central School District will dedicate a full day to community service,  combining forces to make a positive impact across the Capital Region. More than 700 individuals will participate in various activities including park and trail cleanups, writing letters to military service members, organizing food pantries, providing free technology help, and supporting human service agencies and animal rescue groups.

The Mar. 31 Superintendent’s Conference Day, which is a day off for students, is usually reserved for training and professional development. This year’s day of giving back reflects the district’s mission which is based on four core values: academics, character, community and wellness.

“Our district is mission-driven and one of our primary goals is to prepare students to become engaged members of their community,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “There is no better way to teach this than to model it ourselves, when and where we can. Our teachers and staff can often be found volunteering their time on projects near and dear to them. Collectively, we have an opportunity on Mar. 31 to help our community organizations in a significant way.”

There are two ways for community members to participate:

“Each school and department will contribute in different ways to this effort,” said Superintendent Monroe. “I am incredibly proud of their work in helping to get this off the ground. I hope it can become a regular event in the district.”
