Bethlehem Central High School’s Stage 700 will present the hilarious musical romp, Anything Goes, from Thursday, April 3 through Sunday, April 6, 2025. Featuring classic, toe-tapping Cole Porter standards, including “I Get a Kick Out of You”; “You’re the Top”; “Friendship”; “It’s De-Lovely” and the title song, “Anything Goes,” this show premiered on Broadway in 1934 and has been updated for modern audiences.
Ticket info can be found here.
Anything Goes tells a tale of mismatched lovers, mistaken identity, and mischievous gangsters traveling from New York to London on a lavish cruise ship in the mid-1930’s. Lovelorn stockbroker Billy Crocker (played by sophomore, Michael Jantson) stows away in pursuit of the object of his affection, Hope Harcourt (sophomore, Emily Schneiderheinze), who is traveling with her fiancé, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (senior, Nathaniel Holbrook) and her mother, Evangeline (senior, Johanna Radcliffe). Also onboard are Billy’s boss, Elisha Whitney (junior, Jeremy Cintron Ortiz) who harbors an old flame for Evangeline; and two more stowaways: gangster with a heart of gold, Moonface Martin (sophomore, Ben Cross), a.k.a. “Public Enemy Number 13”; and his pal Erma (senior, Charlotte Kaleta). Holding them all together is Reno Sweeney (senior, Ellie Pokabla), a nightclub singer who has a crush on Billy, but finds herself falling for the charmingly innocent Lord Oakleigh. The cast is rounded out with passengers, sailors, and more nightclub singers – who bring a boatload of dancing, singing, and joyful celebration!
In addition to the actors, BCHS students will be performing in the live orchestra along with professional musicians; dozens of student and parent volunteers also provide valuable support as tech and lighting crews, as well as stage design, set building, props, costuming, and more.
“Anything Goes is a jazz-age musical and was written as a means of pure escapism during the Great Depression Era. People would flock to the theater to take a break from the reality of the times,” said Stage 700 Director, Amy Roos. “Over 90 years later, the lyrics of the titular song Anything Goes still ring true beginning with ‘the world has gone mad today.’ Generation after generation of new audiences have found a way to connect with the material.”
The show opens on Thursday, April 3rd with a 7:00PM performance on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; and a final, matinee performance starting at 2:00PM on Sunday, April 6th. Each performance runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, including an intermission, when concessions will be available for purchase to help support BCHS Stage 700.
Don’t miss the action and the hi-jinks on board the SS American! Tickets go on sale March 10th and will be available for purchase online at www.bcstage700.org/tickets; remaining tickets will be available at the door before each performance. Regular pricing is $12 and student tickets are $10. Additional information about the show, including a full cast list, can be found on the Stage 700 website at www.bcstage700.org.
