Students at Glenmont Elementary School welcomed science author and educator Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen last week for two presentations, “How a Worm Wiggled into a Book” (K-2) and “Purr-fect Research is so Dog-gone Fun!” (3-5).
K-2 students learned about worm anatomy and the importance of revision in writing. Students were encouraged to hold and observe live worms (in containers) and pose investigative questions to learn more about earthworm science.
Third through fifth-grade students learned there is lots of (fun) research involved in nonfiction writing. Using examples from her book, Dog and Cat Science Unleashed!, Wheeler-Toppen inspired students to use a research cycle strategy to guide information searches.
Thank you to Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen, Glenmont Library Media Specialist Angela Datri, and the Glenmont PTA for making this special event possible!
