Did you know there are dozens of high school students who spend their free time helping teachers and other students troubleshoot Chromebook issues and solving other nagging technology issues?
Every day, these dedicated students can be found at the Justin T. Brown Information Technology Helpdesk working alongside district Technology staff members. Together, they tackle common and not-so-common tech issues that arise during the school day. Wi-fi or login issues, printing problems and device repair come their way through a ticketing system used by students and staff.
“It’s a lot of fun and it’s a lot of work,” says Chris Folio, a BCHS junior who spends his free periods on Tuesdays working at the Helpdesk. “It’s also a great way to gain internship experience and community service hours.”
With its visible location in the main foyer of the school next to the library, there are also plenty of walk-ins looking for help between classes and after school at the Helpdesk. The work keeps the interns and their professional counterparts busy throughout the year.
Twice a year, the Technology Department hosts an after-school pizza party to reward this group of student interns whose work help keeps the high school in good working order. On Friday, Jan. 28, the group relaxed a little and celebrated with food, board games and video games.
