Swing Night to feature BC students and Swing Docs

Bethlehem Central Middle School students are teaming up with the exuberant Swing Docs big band for Swing Night on Monday, June 11, at 7 at the Middle School.

This one-night-only event is a fundraiser for the Mary Jane Hughes Memorial scholarship. Tickets are $5 and will be available at BCMS on Sunday, June 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and at the door on the night of the show starting at 5:30.

The performance will include toe-tapping favorites like “Paper Moon,” “Mack the Knife,” and “Nicest Kids in Town” from Albany’s premier dance band featuring the talents of more than 50 Middle School vocalists.

Mrs. Hughes was a music teacher in Bethlehem for 30 years and passed away in 2011.

“So many students were influenced by Mary Jane,” said Directors Katie Daly and Lynda Conway. “She inspired elementary strings students to want to learn how to make beautiful music. This event is one way to carry on that legacy.”

All proceeds from ticket sales will be used for the Mary Jane Hughes Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be given to a graduating string student who will be majoring in music and has been accepted into an accredited music school. Additional contributions can be made during the event.

Students can also purchase tickets during lunch periods on Thursday, June 7, on Sunday, June 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Monday, June 11, before the show.
