Middle School recognizes outstanding character at quarterly breakfast
More than 60 BCMS students were honored
Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, at the school’s quarterly Character
Recognition
Breakfast.
The award recognizes students who display good
character on a consistent basis throughout the marking period.
Students who are nominated by a staff member were invited to the
special breakfast where they received certificates from Principal
Mike Klugman.
“Character education is very important to us at
Bethlehem Central Middle School,” said House Leader Andrew Baker.
“Just as important, though, is recognizing students’ positive
behavior.”
Students are nominated by their team teachers
and other staff for displaying exemplary behavior, character, and
goodwill towards others. This can range from students who are
consistently courteous and polite, to those who spend Homebase
helping others with schoolwork. This program, now in its sixth year,
is an integral part of the Middle School's Character Education
program. See the complete list of students and why they were honored
at the breakfast here [PDF].
There’s certainly no dearth of good deeds at the
middle school. The students recognized at the breakfast are in
addition to the 40 or so that have received Eagle Awards this
marking period.
Eagle Awards are given to students who display
acts of kindness, courtesy, or cooperation throughout the school
day. Any staff member may give this award upon observing this
positive display of character. Learn more about the Eagle Award
here

here [PDF].
Baker said he is always on the lookout for good
behavior and how to commend it. To that extent, the middle school
has recently begun a “table of the week” program in the cafeteria.
This recognition is given to a table of students who display
positive behavior at lunch throughout the week; the chosen table
earns the opportunity to eat outside on Fridays. Because the weather
is quickly turning cold, the school will continue this program in
the spring when the weather permits.
