A group of Bethlehem students are headed to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Championships of the high school level National History Bowl and National History Bee.

Bethlehem students captured the Junior Varsity and Varsity titles at the New York Upper Hudson Regional History Bowl held at RPI on March 10. BC students edged out teams from Guidlerland, Shenendehowa and Hoosick Falls in a round-robin format with very close and competitive rounds.

Competing for BC were James Barriere, Hassan Beesley, Raphael Castro, Jonah Goldberg, Satjiv Kanwar, Kartick Rankumar, Max Rosenberg, Tom Sheridan, Ben Weinstein and Eric Wolfsberg. In addition, BC sophomore Tom Sheridan won the New York Upper Hudson Regional History Bee Junior Varsity and Varsity titles, beating all competitors in the individual part of the competition.

Eric Wolfsberg, an 8th grader, competed at the high school level after winning the regional Middle School division of the history championships (read that story here).

The BC students will compete against fellow history enthusiasts from across the United States at the National History Bowl and Bee, April 28 and 29. The national competition will be held at sites of cultural and historic significance in Washington, D.C. and environs including foreign embassies and Smithsonian museums, with the final round for the Bee taking place at Mount Vernon.
