Eagle Principal Dianna Reagan named DATAG Educator of the Year
Award honors those who demonstrate outstanding leadership in promoting the policies of an organization that affects the educational performance of students
Dianna Reagan is an outstanding principal – the data backs it up.
At its summer conference in July, The New York Schools Data Analysis Technical Assistance Group honored Eagle Principal Dianna Reagan with the Dr. Gerald E. DeMauro Award, bestowed on educators who have made a significant contribution to the educational performance of students by promoting data-driven policies.
Reagan became Eagle Elementary School’s first principal when it opened its doors four years ago.
“I now look back with amazement at how Dianna has integrated the staff and students from five other elementary buildings to create a school that is highly respected by the community,” Assistant Superintendent Jody Monroe wrote in her nomination of Reagan.
“Dianna provides the instructional leadership and supervision necessary to ensure that every student is learning and achieving at a level that maximizes their potential. She has also emerged as a leader among our elementary principals when it comes to data and using it effectively for instruction.”
Monroe noted that Reagan is heavily involved in making sure that teachers are given the necessary support to become outstanding teachers and maintain their level of excellence. She helps teachers develop lessons that emphasize active student participation and involvement, discovery, critical thinking, working in groups, written and verbal communication of ideas, and the use of technology to assist the learning process. All classrooms at Eagle support engaged learning, problem solving, communication, collaboration, seeking connections and technology.
“It has been a great honor to receive The Dr. Geralde E. DeMauro award for excellence in education,” said Reagan.
“DATAG’s mission of using data to inform and improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment is one of the most important responsibilities we have as educators. Finding the instruction embedded in assessments gives us the knowledge to guide and assist students to becoming proficient learners. Last year, all elementary schools at BC implemented common assessments to help us drive our instruction. It was a huge task that all teachers embraced and learned from. Thank you to all the outstanding teachers and administrators at Bethlehem Central who have continuously inspired me to reflect and grow each and every day, especially in the area of data driven instruction.”
Reagan is on a mission to bring data to her teachers to help drive their instruction and she is changing the culture of education because of it. Through listening, coaching, teaching, dedication and respect for her fellow educators, she is building a collaborative culture that uses data to drive instruction.
“What makes Dianna so talented is her passion for ensuring all of her students are successful,” said Monroe.
"This isn’t simply a matter of her thinking they
are being successful, but rather using the available data to prove
this with her teachers. When the data does not support growth and
assessment, Dianna has honest conversations with her teachers and
works with them to help them use data more effectively. Most
importantly, she has helped the students and staff gain confidence
and success through the use of data-driven instruction.”
