NYSED decides to stop preparing Foreign Language Regents exams
In a cost-reducing move this spring, the Board of Regents approved the
elimination of January Regents exams and Foreign Language Regents exams
developed by State Ed.
Beginning with the 2011-12 school year, the state will no longer create
language Regents and provide them to school districts. However, school
districts may develop their own language Regents exams and give a
locally-developed test as a Regents exam. The locally-developed Regents exam
must meet the same criteria as prior tests. Graduation requirements and the
use of the language Regents exam to satisfy the sequence for an Advanced
Regents diploma all remain the same.
